HIKING AND NATURE TRAILS IN GULF SHORES

Joseph Pawlak | December 12, 2022

With weather as nice as ours, you will probably want to spend as much time as possible outside during your Alabama Gulf Shores vacation, and we don’t blame you! We LOVE the indoor/outdoor lifestyle we are so lucky to experience here. The natural beauty of the area lends itself to an abundance of Gulf Shores hiking and nature trails that can be found throughout the region. Our little slice of paradise is so beautiful we want to be outside enjoying it; keeping healthy through exercise is just an added benefit! Below you will find a list of Gulf Shores hiking trails that can be found in the region. Sunscreen is recommended, and a good camera is a requirement!

Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trails

Butterfly gardens, freshwater marshes, and coastal hardwood swamps are just some of the fine examples of nature you can find when hiking these seven nature trails, and the wildlife will take your breath away! Bring along a nature checklist and see how many entries you can check off as you explore—just be careful to keep your distance from the alligators lazily basking in the sun!  Visit www.backcountrytrail.com for a map and complete listing of all the Gulf Shores hiking trails in the area.

Graham Creek Nature Preserve

We believe in protecting our natural resources, and the 500 acres of Graham Creek offers a haven of peace to plants and wildlife that might otherwise have disappeared forever. Deer, snakes, turtles, and even creepy spiders know that THIS is the place they can call home without fear. Setting aside a few hours during your vacation to explore the trails of the preserve may be the best decision you make your entire trip! Visit www.grahamcreekpreserve.org for more information.

Gulf State Park

Home to two miles of pristine white beaches, Gulf State Park is also a premier place for hiking, fishing, exploring, and just relaxing under an umbrella and napping, with the music of the gulf waves slapping against the shore nearby. Trails are marked and kept neat by park service workers; make sure you do your part and leave the trails cleaner than you found them! For more information for hiking and exploring, visit www.alapark.com.
