Treat Him to Golf and More

Start Dad off with a hearty Southern breakfast with complete with buttery grits, crisp bacon, a fresh seafood omelet, maybe some biscuits and red-eye gravy and lots of hot coffee. All made by the kid’s loving hands in that spacious kitchen, with help from Mom of course. Set him up out on the deck overlooking the waves, or let the kids serve him in bed.

He’s going to need that filling breakfast for what’s coming next. Treat him to a round of golf at Kiva Dunes! Located within a conservation area here on the Fort Morgan peninsula, beautiful Kiva Dunes is Alabama’s highest rated public course—just the challenge Dad needs!

Rent a few jet skis for the weekend, and send Dad out with the kids for fun on the water. Or treat them all to parasailing lessons. Let them zip up and down along the coast until they tire themselves out. Later, after a full day of beach fun, everyone can watch Dad’s favorite movies on the big flat screen as they lounge around your roomy rental.

Treat Him to an Angling Adventure

Does your Dad like to use a fishing rod more than a golf club? Nothing could be easier here in Fort Morgan where your Dad’s just a few steps away from doing what he loves. He can fish in the surf in front of your beach-front rental (for flounder or even red drum), or from your private fishing pier when you rent one of our bay-front vacation homes. Watch the sun come up, coffee and rod in hand, and start catching lunch.

Please your angler Dad even more with a guided fishing expedition. Go inshore fishing and you’ll be catching redfish, trout, flounder, even shark on light tackle, using live bait you caught earlier. Dad can still catch a big fish, but this is fun fishing. The stressful part comes with more serious offshore fishing. A day long adventure, where if you’re lucky, your Dad can experience the thrill of reeling in trophy fish like amberjack, king mackerel, tuna, marlin, and swordfish. Stressful, but exhilarating!

If your Dad likes a challenge, try fishing from a kayak or canoe. Your guide will lead you on the hunt through creeks, channels and marshes along the barrier islands and coast for flounder, speckled trout, sheepshead, black drum, pompano, bluefish, mackerel—whatever’s in season. All while you all enjoy beautiful scenery and maybe the company of a dolphin or two. Take things up a notch and use a fly rod!

Treat Him to What He Likes This Father’s Day in Fort Morgan

It’s up to him of course, so if he just wants to lounge on the porch of your beachfront rental watching the waves crash on the bright white sand while he enjoys a few adult beverages in the balmy breeze, that’s fine. Or maybe, just get him settled on the comfy sofa in front of the flat screen while he watches the sports program of his choice for as long as he wants. Just be sure to keep those brews and snacks coming.

You can always make a stop by the local seafood market for the catch-of-the-day to grill out on the deck, or order up his favorite seafood dinner from a local restaurant. Serve things up out on the deck, with that lovely ocean view. A nice, long stroll on the beach after dinner will end the day nicely.

Take a Nature Hike and a Step Back in Time

If your Dad is a lover of history, especially military history, he’ll love Fort Morgan. This pentagonal-shaped masonry fort has been guarding the coast since the 1800s. Besides touring the fort, there are live re-enactments and canon firings, plus you can fish from the pier, have a picnic on the beach, or hike through Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

The Refuge, which has trail heads right at Fort Morgan, is a great place for bird and wildlife watching while the entire family hikes or bikes along the trails winding through wetlands, maritime forests, scrub habitats and more. Take the time to climb the observation tower on Pine Beach Trail for a great view of Gator Lake and its scaly inhabitants. Now this is a Fort Morgan Father’s Day that he won’t forget.
