Wear Something Green!
This is the day to be outrageous – try a bright, fluorescent green wig, giant shamrock sunglasses or a big shamrock hat. Remember, if you’re not wearing green, you’re apt to get pinched all day. Just don’t forget to wear a shamrock somewhere on your person for good luck. It’s ok to put on a green bathing suit and just lay on the beach all day, as long as you have a few cold green beverages by your side. If you do head out to a local drinking establishment, don’t forget your green mask!
Eat and Drink Something Green!
Make some Irish soda bread to munch on all day while you’re binge-watching those parades and Irish movies on the large flat screens in your rental. There should be cabbage too, either with your corned beef (a very Irish-American thing to do) or with mashed potatoes (called Colcannon, it’s a very Irish thing to do). And if your family doesn’t love corned beef and cabbage, don’t worry. Make a Dublin Coddle (an artery-blocking layering of bacon, pork sausage and potatoes), Irish stew, or Shepard’s Pie. Fish’n’Chips or a shrimp Po’boy isn’t exactly Irish, but it would be a shame to come to the beach and not eat fresh seafood.
The fully equipped kitchen in your rental makes it easy to whip up all sorts of delicious Irish food, or just make sure you have some green food coloring on hand, and you can turn anything Irish. The kids will love your green cupcakes or green mac ‘n’ cheese. And of course, it wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without green beer, Irish coffee, and a Guinness or two.
Or order take-out (and beer) from a local restaurant (try Tacky Jack’s), and eat at your leisure, wearing your splendorous green attire and enjoying the ocean view from your own deck. Many local restaurants along the coast may be having their annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, just check before you head out. St. Patty’s Day at the Flora-Bama can be wild!
Watch Something Irish!
Need your parade fix? Turn on the flat screen and stream a few St. Patrick Day parades from previous years (a breeze with your rental’s free Wi-Fi). Or binge watch a few Irish movies, like The Quiet Man with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara (an oldie but goodie), Darby O’Gill and the Little People (if you’re in a very silly mood), Waking Ned Devine, and My Left Foot.
Need to work off that Dublin Coddle? Turn on YouTube for some Irish dance lessons. It’s time to learn an Irish Jig or maybe Step Dancing. Get your gang together and put on your own Riverdance.
DIY Irish Celebrations
While you aren’t able to travel to Ireland for the big celebration, you can have your own right here in your Fort Morgan beach-front rental. Make a stop at the local Dollar Store or Walmart on the way on to the peninsula and stock up on big green shamrocks, green and white streamers, plenty of green beads and decorate your rental. Buy the kids some green sparklers for some moonlight fun on the beach.
Set up a table out on the deck, and let the kids paint everyone’s face with bright green shamrocks or have a cookie decorating contest. Whip up some shamrock shaped cookies in your rental’s fully equipped kitchen (or buy some ahead of time), then let the kids go wild decorating them. Have a few different colored icings, sprinkles, glittery sugar, and small Irish flags on hand.
Let the kids make their own green slime. Go online for the recipe or grab a slime kit to whip up some gross green goo! The kids will love it. They can use it clean up all that glittery sugar and the sprinkles from cookie decorating.
Everyone’s Irish on St. Pat’s
Start the day with a “full Irish”, then take a refreshing stroll on the beach. It’s just a few steps out the back door of your beachfront rental. When you get back, set your favorite music streaming service to an Irish or Celtic channel and those bagpipes will have you in the mood in no time.
If you need a few suggestions on take-out restaurants, or where to pick up some ready-made sugar cookies for the kids to decorate, just give our friendly staff a call! We can help you find what you need for your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, including where to stay in Fort Morgan with the perfect beach-front view!
