Delectable Seafood in One of the Best Restaurants in Gulf Shores
Original Oyster House serves up succulent seafood platters and Cajun classics in the comfy, down-home atmosphere of one of the best restaurants in Gulf Shores.
Begin with shared starters like fried green tomatoes, hushpuppies, crab claws, lump crab cakes, fried crawfish tails, alligator bites, Cajun popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, and Natchitoches meat pies—a traditional Cajun dish of seasoned ground beef wrapped in a pastry crust and served with a homemade remoulade. Alternatively, you can try some of the oysters for which Original Oyster House Gulf Shores got its name, from fresh oysters on the half-shell to baked or fried oysters with toppings like garlic butter, cheese, bacon, remoulade, and a sweet pepper sauce.
Refreshing salads like the crab cake BLT salad and the Southern fried shrimp salad will keep you cool in the summer. During the colder months, you can warm up with a cup or a bowl of the restaurant’s homemade seafood gumbo, taken from an old Mobile Bay recipe that includes crab meat, shrimp, fish, and a decadent bacon-rendered roux.
Sandwiches and po’boys all have a Cajun twist and highlight everything from shrimp and crawfish to alligator and soft shell crab. Try the Ultimate Grilled Cheese, which includes blackened popcorn shrimp, Gouda cheese, and sourdough bread.
Specialty dishes include Southern and Cajun favorites like shrimp au gratin, stuffed whitefish Florentine, fried green tomatoes topped with Ya-Ya shrimp, blackened whitefish topped with tasso Conecuh sausage, and the fresh seafood catch of the day prepared with Baldwin County pecan butter, stuffed with crabmeat dressing and hollandaise sauce, or blackened and topped with tasso and Conecuh sausage cream sauce. Bourbon-grilled chicken breasts and New York strip steak provide options for inland entrées.
Original Oyster House Gulf Shores is open daily from 11:00am to 9:30pm during the summer. The restaurant’s winter hours, which run from mid-October through February, are 11:00am to 9:00pm daily. The restaurant is also closed for Easter, the Sunday after Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
