Located at the end of the Fort Morgan Peninsula, Fort Morgan played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in the Civil War in August 1864. Just offshore, during the battle, Union Admiral David G. Farragut uttered the now famous line: “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” After you tour the fort, you can visit the Bon Secour National Refuge – home to a variety of natural habitats that are quickly disappearing from our shores. Both the fort and the refuge are on the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail, so this area is great for bird watching year round. For a more extensive Civil War experience, visit the entire Battle of Mobile Bay Civil War Trail.
