Winter in Gulf Shores – no snow, no sleet or other nasty cold weather to worry about. With highs in the 50s and 60s, and lows averaging in the 40s (Is that even really a low?), the weather is still perfect for all the outdoor activities you love. There are plenty of things to do in Gulf Shores in the Winter! Start your winter journey off with some of these suggestions.

DAY 1 – Golf- Things To Do In Gulf Shores In The Winter

Gulf Shores is a golfer’s paradise, and there are many great local courses to choose from. Alabama’s highest ranked public golf course is Kiva Dunes, complete with dunes and coastal feel. DAY 2 – Hiking

The Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is comprised of some of the state’s last remaining undisturbed coastal habitat. Several endangered species make their home here, and the refuge is a major stopover point for neotropical migratory birds. There are several nature trails of various lengths and fitness levels for all kinds of hikers. Lower temperatures and little humidity make winter the perfect time to discover what the refuge has to offer.

DAY 3 – South Baldwin Community Theatre

If you are looking for entertainment, head to the South Baldwin Community Theatre. This non-profit organization is made up of volunteers from all walks of life who come together in love for the theater. And, they have special “snowbird” promotions just for winter visitors! It’s one of the best things to do in Gulf Shores in December.

DAY 4 – The Wharf

The Wharf has it all: shopping, dining, nightlife, and a Ferris wheel! With the variety of shops, restaurants, and bars, there will something for everyone. You can even take in a movie or concert. There are so many things to do in Gulf Shores in December! The amphitheater hosts events year-round, and previous events have included Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers, Kenny Chesney, and Hootie & the Blowfish. There are plenty of activities for the kids too, such as mini-golf, arcade games, laser tag, and escape rooms.

DAY 5 – Oysters!

Winter is the perfect time for some gulf coast oysters. You can find fresh, local oysters at almost every dining and drinking establishment in the area. Plan on getting your fill of these fresh, delicious treats while you’re here. Imagine tasting those fresh, right-off-the-boat oysters on the half-shell and sipping an adult beverage while you’re sitting on a deck overlooking the beach while your friends are battling the cold and snow.

DAY 6 – The Flora-Bama Super Chili Bowl Cook-off

Well, if you come to Gulf Shores, you have to visit the most famous beach bar in the country. The Flora-Bama has it all: beachside bars, five different entertainment areas, and an oyster bar. And, in February, they host their annual Super Chili Bowl Cook-off. Test your best chili recipe against the pros and other chili lovers, or just eat your way through the competitors.

DAY 7 – The Beach!

It may be winter in other parts of the country, but in Gulf Shores, it’s beach weather all year round. The water may be a little cold, but it’s the only thing here that is. And, the crowds are gone. So, take a relaxing stroll along the pristine beaches looking for shells and dolphins and re-connect with someone close.
