The Original Point Restaurant actually started out back in the 1950s when they started cooking up mullet. Their menu has expanded since then, but mullet is still a popular item! There’s plenty of outside seating, an inside dining room (for when it just gets too hot outside and you just need that AC) and a full bar with several TVs so you can watch the game. There’s usually some live music playing at night, and they may have the only bluegrass band in town. This is a fun, family-friendly, casual kind of place!
The Menu at the Original Point Restaurant
Red snapper, Blackened Scallops, Crab Cakes, Gumbo, and the Fried Crab Claws are just a few customer favorites. And don’t worry, those sweet little hushpuppies come with everything! There is a wide variety of choices here, but the focus in on fresh seafood.
The menu at The Original Point Restaurant Perdido Key starts out with some typical appetizers like Calamari, Potato Skins, Oysters or Boiled Shrimp, then adds in a few southern favorites like Fried Green Tomatoes, Gator Bites, Fried Pickles or popular Royal Reds. There’s an early bird menu from 4pm to 7pm, with specials like Shrimp N Grits, Chopped Steak and Alfredo or Creole Cream Pasta. The separate kids’ menu has a little of everything, with shrimp, fish, chicken tenders, a grilled cheese, and burgers.
Now comes the seafood, and of course, the Mullet! It has a bad rep, and most people outside of Florida think of mullet as a bait or trash fish, not an eating fish since it does have that fishy fish flavor. But we love it here in Perdido Key. Don’t worry though, there’s a wide variety of fish and seafood on the menu, not just mullet. You’ll find shrimp, crab, scallops, tilapia, catfish, and more. And there are plenty of seafood combos and platters in various sizes and cooked in a variety of methods to please every seafood lover in your group.
And if anyone is not a seafood fan, there are several chicken options, a Bone-In Pork Chop and a couple of steak options. Plus sandwiches, po’boys and burgers if you want something a little lighter. Try the Soft Shell Crab sandwich or the Famous Point Mullet sandwich. You’ll need to save room for a piece of Fried Cheesecake or Key Lime Pie or get it to go. And everyone should try the Smoke Gouda Cheese Grits at least once.
