HomeWinter Vacation Condos in Gulf Shores

Gulf Shores is the perfect vacation spot year-round, but in the winter there’s a different vibe. Most of the crowds are gone, as is the hot weather. The weather’s kind of cool, sweater weather, and there’s certainly no sleet or snow around. It may not be the ideal time for swimming or surfing, but it’s the perfect time for golfing, fishing, hiking and more. Our Gulf Shores condos are a great choice for your winter stay here in the Gulf.

Outdoor Activities to Enjoy While Staying in Our Gulf Shores Condos

If anyone in your group is an avid golfer, they’re going to find some great courses here in the Gulf area. From the 36-hole course at Craft Farms Golf Club designed by legendary Arnold Palmer to the public course at Kiva Dunes in Fort Morgan. The Kiva Dunes course lets the natural, coastal habitat of the dunes and natural marshes shine through, and the winds off both the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay make this a challenging, but fun course.

It may be too cold for getting in the water, but it’s still a great time to be out on the water. The winter waters in the Gulf area are full of redfish, pompano, and sheepshead. Book an offshore charter to land bull redfish or stay inshore for speckled trout. Fish the surf in front of your condo for a delicious black drum. Grill your catch of the day out on the condo’s community grill and dine al fresco, or show off your culinary skills in your condo’s gourmet kitchen. Blackened black drum is pretty tasty!

Cooler weather in the winter means it’s the perfect time to hit the trails when staying in our condos in Gulf Shores. There are plenty of great trails here in the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail. Both the Refuge and the Trail take you through different natural, coastal habitats and are excellent spots for bird and wildlife viewing. Enjoy your hike as the trails wind past pristine freshwater lakes, coastal swamps, wetlands and over longleaf sand ridges. Watch for osprey, bald eagles, white tail deer, coyote, otters, alligator, and elusive bobcat.

Visit Area Attractions While Crowds Are Thin

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is home to many endangered animals and there usually is some sort of program or activity going on. Get up close and personal with a sloth or camel, play with giant snakes, kooky baby kangaroos, loony lemurs and more. The reptile house has plenty of big ole snakes, huge spiders, and iguanas, not to mention a few native alligators hanging around. Some of the endangered and vulnerable species calling the zoo home include gorgeous Bengal tigers, and Katrina, a lovely black leopard.

The Track Family Recreation Center has go-karts on their famous elevated wooden track, bumper cars, mini golf and more! And The Wharf in Orange Beach has ice skating, last minute gift buying, and Santa Claus. Not to mention an arcade, mini-golf, a movie theater, zip line, restaurants, shops, bars, and a Ferris wheel!

Enjoy Holiday Events

Experience the holidays, Gulf Coast Style. Nearby Bellingrath Gardens and Home’s holiday tour is an annual event, as is LuLu’s Annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade. Of course, family friendly, beach-front LuLu’s is great all year-round.

No trip to the Gulf Coast, any time of year, would be complete without at least one trip to the world-famous Flora-Bama! There’s always something going on at this honky-tonk, and winter is no exception. Annual winter events include their annual Thanksgiving pot luck, the holiday Santa Drop, annual Christmas Pot Luck, and their annual New Year’s Eve Bash and Polar Bear Dip on New Year’s Day. Plus there’s always live music on five stages, several oyster bars and plenty of bushwackers year-round!
