The Christmas holidays can be so hectic at times, so why not plan a relaxing, coastal Gulf Shores Christmas getaway this year? Spending your holidays in Gulf Shores is a great idea. Enjoy warm, balmy weather, bright sandy beaches, and that wonderfully relaxed beach ambiance. And of course, there’s no need to skip any of your Christmas traditions, you can do everything here at the Gulf with a fun coastal flair.
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without lights. Local annual events will get you in the holiday mood.
The Wharf in Orange Beach has plenty of holiday activities such as ice skating, lighting of the Christmas tree, and the Holiday SPECTRA Sound and Light Spectacular. You can do your last-minute shopping here too.
The Lighted Christmas Parade & Lighting of the Beach features festively-lighted floats, marching bands, and holiday characters wandering through Gulf Shores, starting at Gulf Shores Public Beach and ending at Sims Park. After the parade, there will be holiday treats, pictures with Santa, and a coastal-style snowball drop with 4,000+ ping pong balls!
For over thirty years the Gulf Shores Christmas Lighted Boat Parade has started at LuLu’s. It winds down the Intracoastal Waterway past the Wharf, west to Perdido Pass and ending in Orange Beach. Grab a great seat to watch the parade at the Wharf or LuLu’s.
Attend Gulf Shores’ annual Breakfast with Santa at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center, where you can enjoy pancakes and a visit from the jolly old elf himself! And, the first 50 kids will receive a complimentary picture with Santa. Check their website for dates, ticket prices and other information.
You don’t want to miss the Flora-Bama’s Annual Santa Drop. Watch Santa sky dive onto the bright white beach at the honky-tonk. Have your picture taken with Santa, grab some hot chocolate, and stay for lunch.
You may not have known this, but Santa Claus has a brother Billy. It’s true! Come meet Billy at LuLu’s and have your picture taken with this fun-loving Caribbean Clause. There’ll be plenty of activities for the kids. Check LuLu’s website for more information about Billy Clause and the LuLuBelles.
Gulf Shores Christmas Dinner
Many of your favorite restaurants will be open on Christmas, but it’s always best to check before you head out. The Flora-Bama will be offering up their usual Christmas Potluck – a fun, casual way to meet some new friends while enjoying a pot luck lunch and some live music. They provide turkey and ham while guests bring a side or dessert.
After you’ve had your (and your kids’) picture taken with Santa, seen all the parades, and finished that last-minute shopping, head back to your beachfront rental and just relax. Walk on the beach, watch the waves and maybe some dolphins, and then head in for a family Gulf Shores Christmas dinner. Low key, relaxing and wonderful.
