Originally, Labor Day was meant as a national salute to the contributions American workers have made over the years. Today this three-day weekend has come to signal the end of summer. This is the last long weekend before school starts and things get serious again. It’s time for that last cookout, that last beach day, and that last long round of golf. So, set up the grill and get cooking for a Gulf Shores Labor Day!
The weather is cooler and the crowds are thinner, making this the perfect time of year for your last beach weekend. Lay back, relax and watch for dolphins, take a dolphin sightseeing tour, rent a kayak or paddle board, go parasailing or scuba dive. So many things to do, so little time!
Head over to your favorite beach hangout for a cold brew and live music. LuLu’s, The Hangout and the Flora-Bama are crowd favorites and always have something fun going on.
Stay inside your beach house or find the nearest watering hole to watch baseball or golf on TV, cold brew in hand. Or, hit one of the many great golf courses in the area to get in one or two last rounds before you head home. Kiva Dunes Resort & Golf and the Gulf State Park Golf Course are just two options. And, there’s always mini golf at Pirates Island Golf, Zooland Mini Golf and the Wharf. Or, just grab a bunch of friends or make some new ones with a pickup beach volleyball game before you head to the cookout.
Food & More During Gulf Shores Labor Day
Take the family out to Gulf State Park for the day. Do some fishing or just watch what’s swimming under the pier – sharks, stingrays and other cool stuff. Miles of bright white beaches are waiting for you to parasail, kayak, or paddleboard in the surf. Hike or bike on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail complex; look for alligators, coyotes, white tailed deer, osprey, bald eagles, herons and more as you hike. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch!
Head to the Wharf in Orange Beach for all day fun during a Gulf Shores Labor Day. The Wharf has a zip line course, mini golf, an escape room, movie theaters, shopping, restaurants, and more. End your day by attending a concert at the amphitheater or with a Ferris wheel ride.
Spend the morning catching fish and the afternoon eating them! Your private deck is the perfect place for grilling, having a fun family meal, and watching the sun set while you have one last cold one.
Your group is accused of being Civil War spies and are locked in the brig. Time to escape! Fort Morgan’s Mobile Point Escape Room (10am and 2pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays) adds a bit of authentic history and fun to escape rooms.
And, the world-famous Flora-Bama will be having their last Bikini Contest of the year, and of course, it will include some serious BBQ. Bikinis & BBQ – not a bad way to end the summer.
