Unwind in your beautiful coastal rental. In fact, no one will judge if you decide to spend the entire day lounging around. Or, find a beach-front restaurant or bar to hang out in. Sit out on the deck, your favorite adult beverage in hand and watch the waves. There’s nothing more relaxing in the world.
When you’re done relaxing and feel up to a little exercise or adventure, there are plenty of things to do here in the winter. In fact, about the only thing you won’t want to do is go swimming. The water’s a little cool for that, unless you’re thinking of participating in one of the area’s Polar Bear Plunges! But everything else is still good: beachcombing, parasailing, beach volleyball and just lounging around.
Or, take a dolphin cruise or do some fishing. Fishing is still great here in the winter. Redfish, pompano, sheepshead and speckled trout are pretty active here in winter. Charter a boat for a deep sea adventure and dolphin watching combined, or rent a canoe or kayak and try your hand at fishing up close and personal. Landing a redfish or sheepshead from a kayak is a totally different experience! Or stay close to your vacation home and do some surf fishing. Rent one of our beach-front rentals and walk right out of your cottage, down to the beach and catch some dinner. Surf fishing is a great activity for kids too! And what better way to enjoy fishing, than grilling up your catch?
Hit the area nature trails near our Orange Beach winter rentals– no crowds or bugs! Hike or bike along the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail; it winds through different ecosystems including longleaf sand ridges and coastal hardwood swamps. Look for white-tail deer, coyote, bobcat, otters, alligators, and a wide variety of birds. The 12.2-mile loop trail is paved, and features restrooms, a lake and a butterfly pavilion. The trails were originally used by the area’s indigenous peoples and early settlers. Bring your kids and their favorite four-legged friend along while you are on the lookout for the “Catman” – a part man/part wildcat swamp creature!
Need something for the kids to do? Head to Adventure Island with its go-carts, mini-golf, bumper cars, laser tag, paddle boat rides, and giant five-story volcano that erupts periodically. Your kids will love this place! It’s a great way to let them expend all that energy and they’ll sleep like angels later!
Here for the holidays? Have some last-minute gift shopping to do? Head to the Wharf for shopping, dining, nightlife and more! Enjoy fun activities for the entire family: mini-golf, game arcade, movies, concerts, laser tag, escape rooms, a zip line and a Ferris wheel! This place is fun all year round, but The Wharf is even more enjoyable when it’s all lit up for the holidays!
And there are plenty of beach-front restaurants and bars. Head to Tacky Jack’s Bar and Grill, Livebait or The Undertow. Colorful Tacky Jacks is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is a casual, popular destination point for locals and visitors alike. All three are family friendly during the day, but at night things can get rowdy. And you can’t come to the Gulf Coast without one trip to the nearby world-famous Flora-Bama honky tonk. Again, this family friendly beach-front establishment will get rowdy at night, with live music and plenty of adult beverages. There’s always something going on at the Flora-Bama! It’s gotta be on your bucket list!
