At first glance, the Anchor Bar and Grill looks like one of those down ’n’ dirty dive bars that only the locals know about. But give it a chance. Once inside, you’ll realize it’s so much more; it has flair. The tiny, narrow interior dining space is clean and bright, a little tight, but nicely decorated. Every seat is close to the open kitchen – it’s right behind the bar. The best seats are outside on the huge covered deck overhanging the water. Fresh food, great location. Perfect!
Don’t be discouraged about the menu. It’s sparse to say the least, with only eight entrée items on the menu. However, they’re all great! Try the Whiskey Brisket Tots: whiskey smoked wagyu brisket over tater tots with cotija, spring onion marmalade, tomato crema, parsley salad, marrow hot sauce and a sunny up farm egg. Or the Gulf Fish Tacos, which are pan seared Gulf fish with pickled LA crawfish salsa, cilantro puffed rice, refried butterbeans and avocado crema. What the menu lacks in quantity, it more than makes up in quality. There is a kids’ section on the menu too, as well as specialty cocktails. Give the Blonde Bushwhacker a try; what’s better than a cocktail with ice cream?
And there’s more – their specials. Check their Facebook page for their daily specials; you’ll be so glad you did. Recent delicious selections have included some very inventive combinations: Elotes Crab Fingers (seared scallops, latkes, tomato tzatziki, pickled ramps and ramp oil with pork belly báhn mì), Wickle Pickle-brined Gator-fil-A Nuggets, served with Polynesian and Gator-fil-A dipping sauces, Duck Rillettes Grilled Cheese with Havarti, B&B radish, and strawberry, fig & jalapeño jelly, served with yellow sriracha mayo, the Oxtail Boudin Sandwich with braised greens, Steen’s cane mustard, and crispy spring onions, or the Beeler’s Pork Chorizo & LA Crawfish Chili Cheeseburger with crawfish dip mayo. Yes, please!
