TACKY JACKS IN GULF SHORES

Joseph Pawlak | December 12, 2022

Vacationing with all the kids? Then you’re going to want a casual place to eat that is really kid-friendly. Tacky Jacks is the place. It’s a fun, popular, touristy kind of place with lots of activities for the kids, especially in the summer.

The Vibe of Tacky Jack’s

Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores is right on the Intracoastal Waterway. Drive or boat in, either way, there’s plenty of parking, and of course, great views of the waterway! You can sit inside where it’s cool (without the gnats!) and enjoy the view through the huge wall of glass, or sit outside on one of the many covered decks. Grab a cool beverage and watch the boats and barges traveling the waterway while the kids play.

Tacky Jacks may be family-oriented, but they have plenty of adult beverages to keep you quenched while you watch the kids taking part in the Summer Fun program – art classes, beach games and more!

This place looks like it was built from giant Tinker Toys. Head to the upper floor and you’ll feel like you’re in a treehouse on stilts. Be sure to write your name or a message on the colorful duct tape provided and add it to the multitude of tape stuck throughout (inside and out) the building.

And there is always something going on, whether it’s the kids’ summer camp, live music, bingo, karaoke or Open Mic Night. Take a look at their Facebook page for current events and specials. Their gift shop (packed with lots more colorful tape) has just about anything you could ask for as a souvenir, as well as art by local artists.

The Food

Tacky Jacks is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their menu is pretty typical for a casual, coastal restaurant: seafood gumbo, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, crab claws, Po’Boys, wraps, sandwiches, tacos, burgers, and seafood platters. There are a few unexpected selections too, such as the Crispy La Hawg Bites (slow roasted & deep-fried pork shank served on the bone) and Gator Bites (deep fried or blackened gator tails).

They serve domestic & imported beer, wine, soft drinks, cocktails and there’s a full bar that opens early. You can view the full menu and drinks list on their webpage.

The Specs

Tacky Jacks in Gulf Shores is in Waterway Village at 240 East 24th Avenue. They are open Sunday through Thursday from 7:30am to 10pm and Friday & Saturday from 7:20am to 11pm.
