One great thing about Gulf Shores is that everything you love to do happens practically year-round—no blizzards, sleet, or freezing weather to worry about. Enjoy your favorite activity in the winter when the crowds (if any) are thin, making Alabama winter vacations all the more enjoyable!
For those golfers out there, Gulf Shores is a year-round paradise, offering golf packages on 15 courses. Take lessons, get your practice rounds in, or enjoy a group outing. Play Alabama’s highest ranked public golf course, Kiva Dunes Resort. Rather watch than swing? Watch the annual Peninsula Golf Tournament, with some of the best professional and amateur players in the world.
Take the family out for miniature golf fun. Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf and Zooland Mini Golf are just two options. Or head to The Track, open year round, offering various activities including go-cart tracks, arcade fun, kiddie rides, bumper cars, bumper boats, and miniature golf.
Alabama Winter Holidays
Enjoying the beach at Thanksgiving? No worries, most local restaurants are open and offer Thanksgiving menus for your holiday feasting. Or, enjoy the Lighted Christmas Parade or Christmas Concert if you are visiting during December. The parade features lighted boats, holiday characters and marching bands. Continue the celebration after the parade at Sims Park, have your picture taken with Santa, and watch the annual snowball drop, where Santa drops over 4,000 ping pong balls. Get in the holiday spirit with the Baldwin Pops (comprised entirely of volunteers) Christmas concert at the Cultural Center Auditorium. In February, Gulf Shores’ average temperature is in the mid 50’s—perfect weather to enjoy the Mardi Gras Celebration and the colorful parade as it winds through town.
Arts & Culture
If you are looking for concerts, live music and theater, the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center has productions all year round. Check their website for Alabama winter events. And, don’t forget that most arts galleries and shops are open all year round, too, perfect for the occasional bad weather day.
Outdoors or Indoors
Golf, walk on the beach, bike, or walk through town or on one of the many trails in the area. Look for shells, bird watch, and watch the dolphins play. Or, just eat and drink your way through town and along the beach. All these are great Alabama winter activities in Gulf Shores! Click here to see the vacation rentals available today!
