Pralines. Pralines and Cream Ice Cream. Butter pecan cookies. Candied pecans. Pecan pie. Pecan pie with pralines and cream ice cream! These are just a few of the wonderful things made with pecans! And if you love pecans and all those delicious treats made with pecans, then you’ve got to schedule a trip to the Alabama Pecan Festival.
This family-friendly festival is held the first weekend in November each year at the W.C Griggs Elementary School, at 5055 Carol Plantation Road in beautiful Mobile. This year’s festival will start Friday night, November 2nd and run through Sunday, November 4th.
The three-day festival in Alabama features live music and entertainment, midway rides, and carnival games. There will be over 150 vendors showing off their arts & crafts and offering local food – including pecans and everything you can think of that can be made with pecans. Bring the kids, as there will be plenty of kid-friendly events, including face painting. And kids of all ages will enjoy seeing all the cars, trucks and tractors in the Antique Car and Tractor Show. Be sure to leave plenty of time to take in all the entries in the quilt exhibit by the Azalea City Quilters Guild. You’ll be amazed at the skill and artistry on display.
And don’t miss the main event on Saturday when they crown the Alabama Pecan Festival Queen at noon! Plus, this year there will be a tribute to Mel Tillis that you just have to hear. There are great events all festival long, so plan to attend all three days. And, if you feel bad about heading out on Sunday after church (or during church), don’t worry; you can attend the Sunday Gospel show instead.
Admission is free for all events except the Midway. Parking is free too! And, of course, there will be plenty of pecans and pecan goodies for everyone! The fun begins on Friday at 5pm, on Saturday at 9am and on Sunday at 11am. Closing time is when everyone leaves!
This annual festival in Alabama is hosted by the Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Alabama Pecan Grower’s Association. For more information, call 251-401-5555, email alabamapecanfestival@gmail.com or visit the festival website.
