Held annually in December since 1984, the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship is the ultimate challenge for women’s collegiate soccer in the United States and Canada. This week long championship, held in Orange Beach, is what it all comes down to. All the practice, the hard fought games – it’s all on the line now. If you love competitive soccer or have a daughter who does, plan your trip to the Gulf Coast to coincide with this exciting tournament where 16 of the best women’s college soccer teams fight it out.
The defending champion is the William Carey University team (from nearby Hattiesburg, Mississippi). Their 2018 win over Florida’s Keiser was a close one, a hard fought defensive battle ending with score of 1-0. This was William Carey University’s first women’s national title, and the second national title in any sport for the university. Go Crusaders! Westmont College (hailing from Montecito, California) has captured the most NAIA titles at five.
The tournament has been held at the Orange Beach Sportsplex since 2003. This year, the tournament starts on Monday, December 2nd and runs through Saturday, December 7th. You can find the sports complex at 4385 William Silvers Parkway in Orange Beach. For questions call 816-595-8000. For updates and women’s soccer news, visit the NAIA women’s soccer championship webpage.
A Tournament Pass is $30/person, which is a pretty small price to pay for almost a week of thrilling competitive soccer. If you can only make it for the day, a Day Pass is $10/person. Kids under 10 get in free when accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets for the Sunday night Opening Banquet and the Semi-finalist Banquet on Thursday night are $25/person.
The Orange Beach Sportsplex hosts a wide variety of events including SEC and NCAA team games, and high school tournament championships. While you’re at the complex for the NAIA soccer tournament, stroll around the grounds and watch other soccer, baseball, and softball games. And, follow the Sportsplex on Facebook to keep up with other exciting events happening at the complex.
Played by over 250 million people world-wide, soccer (or football to most people in the world) is the world’s most popular sport. Join in the fun here on the Gulf Coast, and watch as the best of women’s collegiate soccer play in this single-elimination tournament for yearlong boasting rights as the champions. If you love watching first-class NAIA soccer, this tournament is something you can’t miss.
