Set It Up for Fort Morgan Online School

Your kids will still have to go to school, but it’s all online anyway, so a quick change of venue shouldn’t be too disruptive. Pack everything up and make the short drive to the white sands and bright blue waters of the Gulf. As you get closer and closer to Fort Morgan, things get quieter, the air changes and you begin to hear the soothing sounds of the beach and gulls crying out to each other.

Let the kids choose their new classroom from one of the bright ocean-themed bedrooms or set them up in the Dining Room where they’ll have plenty of room to spread out. You won’t be needing it for eating anyway, since you’ll be eating out on the screened porch or the covered porch. And there’s always extra seating at the high kitchen counter, perfect for snacks or quick meals. Either way, with your vacation rental’s open floor you can easily keep an eye on them.

All of our rentals have internet and Wi-Fi, so connecting to your child’s school will be easy. With the beautiful beach within a few quick steps of your rental, your children can take a quick swim during their breaks or an early morning, before school swim.

Alternate School Lessons

The beach can be more than just for swimming and playing in the sand. It can be an outdoor classroom for your online school in Fort Morgan. What easier way to learn about coastal ecosystems than firsthand? Book an eco-tour, or make up your own program so your kids can learn about their beach while they play.

Continue with the outdoor theme and take everyone to Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Several trails wind through various coastal habitats, including dunes, scrub forest, wetlands, and maritime forest. The observation tower on Pine Beach Trail is perfect for getting an overview of the area, and a view of the popular Gator Lake. The Refuge also serves as home to the endangered Alabama beach mouse and several endangered sea turtles. As you walk or bike the trails, keep an eye out for a variety of wildlife and native plants. Ospreys, herons, and hummingbirds keep company with armadillos, foxes and alligators.

Let your kids experience history as they take a step back in time at historic Fort Morgan. This masonry, pentagonal shaped fort has been guarding the Gulf Coast since the early 1800s. Once you’ve toured the fort, stay for the live reenactments and regularly scheduled cannon firings. There’s an escape room too!

Schedule a day for the nearby Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo where your kids can learn about endangered animals and conservation. The zoo is home to over twenty critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, or near threatened species including several beautiful Bengal tigers, several lemur species, tortoises, toucans and Katrina, a gorgeous black leopard. Other zoo favorites include Boodah (an American black bear), Australian kookaburras, peacocks (doesn’t every zoo need peacocks?), camels, monkeys and baboons, sloths, owls, and Chuckie, an American alligator and the zoo’s oldest resident.

Other Activities

During their downtime away from Fort Morgan online school, let the kids have the run of the beach! They can build sandcastles (learning a little about structural design without realizing it), play in the surf, or get together a friendly game of tug-of-war.

Book a dolphin watching tour. Spend the day, or half-day, on the water enjoying the local dolphin pods as they frolic beside the boat. Or spend the day fishing, or teaching the kids to fish. Fish in the surf outside your Fort Morgan beachfront rental, or book a fishing charter. Whether you head out into the deep water for serious trophy fishing or tour the backwaters for redfish, trout or snapper, you’ll be sure to enjoy yourselves. If you’re lucky, you’ll bring back enough for dinner.
