Fort Morgan: A Place All Its Own

Fort Morgan can be hard to find. From Gulf Shores, you head west on Fort Morgan Road. You will pass through an unincorporated part of Alabama, stretching along Fort Morgan Road with Bon Secours Bay to the north, reaching far out all the way to the tip of the peninsula, where Fort Morgan itself is located, right off Pelican Bay.

The privacy of Fort Morgan provides the perfect spot for a vacation. Our Fort Morgan Alabama rentals are the perfect home away from home when you want to leave behind city living. You will still enjoy close proximity to a few of the Gulf’s finest attractions though.

Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge

This wildlife refuge on Alabama’s coast was set aside in 1980 for the protection of migratory birds. Many birds nest here to prepare for successful migrations, so the refuge hosts a unique variety of wildlife. The refuge feels private and secluded, so you can enjoy a relaxing walk with great views of both the wildlife and the lagoon. Even locals in Orange Beach will make the trip over to enjoy Bon Secour Refuge.

Kiva Dunes Golf Course

Kiva Dunes is a resort, but you can enjoy its fabulous golf course without booking a room there. Among the top-rated in the entire state, the golf course is cared for by an attentive staff. The eighteen-hole course has both water features and sand traps. You can book a tee time online—the earlier you book, the cheaper a tee you can get.

The Fort

Located at the edge of the peninsula, Fort Morgan had a strategic geographic position when it was used in the Civil War as well as both World Wars. The self-guided tour will give an interesting glimpse into what life might have been like for soldiers quartered here. Throughout the year, history buffs enjoy doing reenactments to share the history. Whether you are interested in the history or not, Fort Morgan is a lovely place to enjoy the scenery and walk your dogs.

Take the Ferry

If you want to go into town from Fort Morgan, you actually have two options—you can drive east to Gulf Shores or take the ferry to Dauphin Island. A ferry ride can be a fun family activity!

“I grew up going out to Fort Morgan. Mom and Dad bought the first home, Catalina, out in Fort Morgan because my Dad really liked the seclusion it offered.  Even now I tell people, you are going to love it because there is no one out there, or you’re going to hate it, because there is no one out there,” jokes Brian Harris, Owner of Harris Vacation Rentals.  “If you want to get away and have a simple vacation on the beach and be secluded and unplug, you can’t beat the vacation rentals in the Fort Morgan, AL, area.”

Surrounding Area

Fort Morgan has a natural, untainted charm that widely reflects the region’s Southern values. The actual fort at the westernmost end of the peninsula is a well-known Civil War battle site, marking it as a significant spot in United States history. The fort was completed in 1834 and served as protection during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and World Wars I and II. Impressive reenactments and demonstrations take place several times per year, and the fort is open daily for self-guided tours. The beaches down here on the west end of the coastline are much less crowded and ideal for spending some quiet time alone. There are also many fantastic fishing opportunities.

Harris Vacations also offers Fort Morgan Property Management services that aim to simplify homeowners’ lives, making renting and managing a property easier than ever before. We ensure that our owners can be worry-free when their properties are rented out during the year. Our team even handles calls from guests day and night.
